As we all know, there is great concern this year for small “house gatherings” for Thanksgiving because of the rising cases of COVID. Bringing together several generations of family could potentially be dangerous, especially for the elderly and/or compromised individuals in your group.
Therefore, I would suggest (as Dr. Fauci and others are right now) that you might celebrate this Thanksgiving with a virtual gathering, so you can rest easy that all of your loved ones will be safe, and yet, be “with them” to give thanks. It’s an important holiday for so many families. Let’s be sure it’s safe!

I’m asking the farms if they will consider processing and freezing more turkeys while they’re smaller, but of course, I have no control. News from the farm where we got most of the turkeys last year: They started raising a 2nd batch later, so that there will be smaller birds to process “fresh” for us this year. So, if you get a larger bird, being creative with the leftovers will be key. I will try to send as many “leftover” recipes as possible. More suggestions to follow. . .

Wow! For the 11th holiday season in a row, it’s time to “pre-order” your special Thanksgiving Turkey(s). No, it’s not too early. The turkeys are growing big and fat, and the farm would like to know as soon as possible approximately how many turkeys to reserve for us. Their other customers in Lancaster are signing up right now. Don’t wait!

For those who are ordering for the first time, here’s how it will go:

We must receive your order and deposit* between now and about 2 weeks before the big day, along with approximately how many pounds you want, so we can put through your order.

Make sure your family and friends are eating organically pastured, humanely raised, healthy turkeys from our trusted farms this year! All of what you want in a great turkey; none of what you don’t!

The BIGGEST NEWS is that we are able to offer you a reasonable price per pound. AND, you can order and include your non-refundable deposit with the next regular order. This way, you won’t pay for the whole bird at once when you pick it up. YOUR NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT IS NECESSARY FOR US TO ORDER YOUR TURKEY!

We will be bringing you Fresh (or Freshly Frozen**) Turkeys on Tuesday,  Nov 24th from our trusted family farm (you know, the organic, grass-fed, pastured, non-GMO, etc. — the Best of the Best!)

They will cost $4.95/lb. and we’re keeping the SAME price as last year! You can order 12-26 lb. birds. This is the only way you can be guaranteed an organically pastured, humanely raised, healthy bird that looks and tastes way better than the turkeys at the supermarkets for your special gathering.

Orders will be taken from now until Thursday, November 12th. You can order by email or phone, as long as you send us a deposit of $25 “per bird” when you order. Or, you can add the non-refundable deposit to your next order on Nov. 7th. Please state approximate poundage when you order, and we will try to get you a bird as close to that weight as possible (within 3 lbs. larger or smaller.) We cannot order without the deposit!

Rule of Sizing: Count on one (1) pound per person at dinner to be sure to have enough to allow for the bones (and maybe a leftover turkey sandwich or some turkey soup — Yum!)

Plan ahead to reserve your bird(s) for the Holiday.

*The deposit is non-refundable and all turkeys must be claimed upon our return (same day) from the farm. If you will not be available to pick up your turkey by 6:30pm or send someone in your place, we must know ahead of time, but we will not hold a turkey overnight.

**Some turkeys will be freshly frozen, meaning they will be processed and frozen a few weeks before Thanksgiving, to make sure they don’t grow too big for your preference. Ask us about methods to safely thaw the bird(s) in time for the big day. 

Remember, buying from Family Farms that feed and pasture their animals properly and treat them humanely is not only better food for the health of you and your family, it’s also supporting those farms to help them flourish. It also sends a BIG message to the factory farm industry, that they don’t rule over our health and we won’t support their practices. IT’S THE RIGHT THING TO DO!
